Ta-form and plain speech

Past, experience, lists

Ta-form is te-form with た instead of て. It is the plain past, and the base for 'have you ever' and 'do things like'.

kinou, shiyou o henkou shita

I changed the spec yesterday. (plain)

toukyou ni itta koto ga arimasu

I have been to Tokyo.

た + ことがあります = experience

shuumatsu wa kōdo o kaitari, hon o yondari shimasu

On weekends I do things like write code and read books.

たり…たりします = non-exhaustive list

kakunin shita atode, renraku shimasu

After confirming, I will contact you.

た + 後で = after doing

Plain forms (だ, dictionary, ない, た) are used inside clauses even in polite speech: 「変更したと思います」 'I think it was changed.'
